Utopium was tasked with creating the perfect setting for Wales’ Euro 2016 homecoming celebration, as the team received a hero’s welcome from 33,000 fans.
Taking place in Cardiff City Stadium, where the team played their qualifying matches, the event was hosted by the Football Association of Wales and looked to celebrate the success of Chris Coleman's team during the Euro 2016 championships.
Initially, Utopium transported and installed its lighting within the Motorpoint Arena, but following Wales’ win over Belgium, the event was rescheduled and the location had to be moved. The event was transformed into a stadium size show, and Utopium’s team had to redesign the lighting installation to fit within this new venue. Utopium designed, transported and installed impressive stadium lighting within two days, creating a show-stopping environment within a short space of time.
As well as players and staff presentations, the event also witnessed a performance from Welsh rock legends, Manic Street Preachers, before the players came out onto the pitch.
Utopium installed four lighting masts with SGM P-2s and P-5s, which flanked the stage, along with a stage lighting package complete with Nexus Panels and Martin Mac Quantum profiles. A red carpet was rolled out across the pitch from the players tunnel to the stage, and was lit using outdoor LED Pars. Utopium also installed goalposts around the players tunnel, with a runway of strobe lighting and haze for the players to run out to.
