Utopium supplied lighting and rigging to support all technical aspects of The Hobbs Show, 6th February 2016.
The Hobbs Show is a yearly spectacular of fashion, performance and music, hosted by Bristol hair salon Hobbs, and all profits are given to Meningitis Research Foundation. The Hobbs Show is the second largest fashion event outside London and Bristol's longest-running fashion show.
Utopium was trusted with supplying the main ground supported truss structure, which stood on four legs and supported the 18m x 18m truss grid. This grid had three additional trusses running parallel to the catwalk, which accommodated the lighting. Utopium supplied cantilever trusses running downstage from the front masts for the suspension of the line array PA system.
Utopium also installed a secondary two legged ground support structure to support the stage set, which included a 6m wide back projection video screen. The show was illuminated using a line of Chauvet 412z LED moving wash lights over the centre of the catwalk, flanked by two lines of Chauvet 419z LED moving wash lights. SGM X5 strobes were interspersed along all three trusses to ensure optimum event lighting.
Martin MAC 700’s were used to great effect from the trusses either side of the room and on vertical trusses flanking the front of house position. Phillips TRX LED Battens were used to uplight the set during the show and a row of Chauvet SR beams were installed on the floor either side of the catwalk. This created fantastic effects to highlight the fashion models, strengthened by the strong beams from the Chauvet RH1 Hybrids deployed on the floor either side of the set.
SGM P5 LED units were used to illuminate the entrance, cloakroom, and bar areas along with Prolights Smart Batt Wireless LED uplighters in the VIP bar.
Utopium’s Colin Bodenham comments: “Being a Bristol-based company we were thrilled to get the opportunity to work on such a great local event. We utilised equipment from our extensive stock list to shine a spotlight on The Hobbs Show and help ensure another spectacular event.”
